What is Organic Farming? Is Organic Farming good for career choice?

Organic farming is the process of growing plants (crops, vegetable, fruits, etc.) and rearing of animals without the use of synthetic compound fertilizers, pesticides, hormones, modified organisms, etc. in other words avoiding the use of chemicals, farming of crops and bringing up and breading of animals (livestock) naturally.

Farming completely depends upon the ecological principle for agriculture that is the management of soil and crops to minimize the pest problems by the use of pesticides and fertilizers that are considered natural.

 Ecological principle for agriculture like

Crop rotation can be used to overcome many of the diseases like an insect, nematode, and weed pressures.

Nitrogen management of soil can decrease the insect damages Instead of using excess inorganic nitrogen in the soil.

Use of organic manure like green manure and organic waste, use of mineral and rock additives in farming.

The unsustainable process has given rise to some serious global issues such as soil and water pollution, soil erosion, climate change, and loss of biodiversity. Because of these factors, the need for sustainable methods for farming has become more obvious.

Organic farming is a way intended to sustain non-renewable resources around the globe. Organic farming yields benefits such as 

Slow down the soil erosion and maintain fertility, soil structure, and biodiversity.

Reduce the use of harmful chemicals that can cause risk factors for humans and animals.

Provide healthier food for people.

As every coin had two sides, organic farming also has its negative side with the benefits it offers.

Drawbacks of Organic farming

Organic farming requires the interaction of farmers with its crops or animals and requires a lot of patience to grow plants organically. The holistic farming system required high labor and time. The system is intensive than conventional farming, which includes machines and chemicals to boost up the process.

Agriculture product which is grown or raised organically has very high price compared to non-organic

, after a long period the soil health and fertility declines which take time for the soil to regenerate for growing crops.

Organic farming as a career 

It has been noticed, according to current statistics, if we see the long term future of organic farming, the industry is continually growing day by day.

The students who are planning go a degree in organic farming the industry has great potential and is good to go.



 After completion of your higher education in organic farming, you have multiple opportunities. You can get a job in the government department as well as in private organization. There are various high pay job options available around the world once you have completed your degree course.

Graduation in organic farming also offers you self employment. With the experience gained during course, you can start your own agricultural business, such as agro-based firms, organic product vendors, etc.

You can get a job as a landscaper and horticulture in hotels, health farms, resorts, etc. they offer placement in poultry farming, soil science, animal science, food science, etc.
